(BROWNSBURG, IN – April 30, 2019) - Robert Stout scored his first national career victory April 13 in the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series under the lights at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park in Chandler, Arizona. The 2018 Production 1000 UTV Rookie of the Year earned the class win in Round 2 of the 2019 championship driving the Tommy Thompson Motorsports No. 915 Magic Dry Yamaha YXZ1000R.

The win was even more impressive given Stout missed the entire first day of practice as the team was still preparing a brand-new car. “The guys thrashed for eight days straight to finish up the car,” said Stout. “Paul Yaw of Yawpower Suspension stayed up all night to make sure there were no issues at the track. Paul was on the dyno at 6am Saturday morning breaking in the new Ben Fox prepared engine and finally rolled through the gates at 8am that morning. With safety belts to adjust and radios to install we just made it out for the final practice Saturday morning and the car was great!”

Last year, Stout ran the fastest lap of the race, finishing 2nd at this same facility and was confident he could do better. The 27-year-old driver went into qualifying with that confident mindset and at the end of the four-lap session posted the fastest time to put him atop the 18-car field securing his first pole of the season.

Following qualifying, the series’ inversion ceremony moved Stout back to the outside of row two. The start of the race saw a lap one wreck back in the field forcing the leaders to race back to the yellow flag at the line.

Still in 4th for the race restart, Stout immediately went to work on the three cars ahead of him and in turn two dove down under the two-time and reigning champ Brock Heger, in the No. 1 car, to move into 3rd. While Stout executed the pass on Heger, leader Dallas Nord, in the No. 974 machine got up on two wheels forcing him off line. It allowed talented Myles Cheek, driving the No. 957 car and the 2018 defending race winner to move out front in a very well-prepared Polaris RZR 1000, with Stout slotting into 2nd. Stout closed on Cheek and the two competitors stayed nose to tail for the next lap and a half. On lap four with Cheek ahead and Heger back in third, Stout got a great run out of turn one and again dove down to move past Cheek as they entered turn two. Stout rotated the car and came out of turn two as the leader with Cheek in pursuit.

Stout, Cheek and Heger were nose to tail for the rest of the 12-lap contest with Stout crossing the line first at the checkered, just 8 tenths ahead of Cheek.

“Man, I just feel like this was a long time coming,” said Stout. “We finished 2nd a couple of times last year including here when we ran the fastest lap of the race, but we’ve never won one so I’m glad to get the first one behind us! Support from Tommy Thompson’s Magic Dry Absorbent makes all this possible, but I wouldn’t be here without Paul Yaw of Yawpower Suspension and my incredible crew members Chris Boodram and Asa Carney. My dad was spotting for me and kept me informed the entire race so I knew just how hard to push. These guys did a great job on the car! First race out and we earned the Pole and a win, man it just doesn’t get much better than that and I’m glad I could deliver!”

The win put Stout 2nd in points (102) just four behind Heger (106) as the series heads south of the border for a double header in Ensenada, Mexico May 18 at the Estero Beach resort.
